Hi is Al there....Alcoholic?
Why do we rely on alcohol so much? We use it to relax, meet, mingle, and party. It's also used in the assistance of beating wives, car accidents, rape coercing, bad decisions and murder.
When people have negative situations happen to them whether they had a one night stand they regret or said or done something embarrasing, They usually tend to go back for more the next night or next party.
Alcohol has become comparable to air. It's just apart of life. It's something we do and don't think twice about. Someone says, "hey, you wanna go out friday?" it's just assumed that a drink will be involved sometime during the night. Why is that?
A friend of mine came by work a few weeks ago. He knew that his friends weren't off work until 11:30 but because he was bored he came by 2 hours before hand in hopes they would get out early so they can all go drink. They didn't get out early. I did end up joining them. Some people who went had to be up as early as 6am the next day. Those people claimed they were going to have one drink. Well 2 hours later they were still there buying pitchers for everyone. It's funny what an excape it is. You keep drinking you can just forget about everything around you. Is that a good thing?
Come to think of it, maybe if it wasn't for alcohol keeping them awake at some bar, they would have just been awake in their beds tossing and turning being miserable. Well Im sure these people still drove home drunk/tipsy which still isn't good.
Maybe I hold a grudge. Maybe because my childhood was tainted by it that I shouldn't be so hard on it. Maybe because a friend of mine died in a drunk driving accident I hold a grudge? Or maybe because another friend of mine was a drunk driver and happen to hit someone innocent and die themselves that it makes me mad. So many possibilities.
I know this might come as a shock to some of you but I'm kind of a hyprocit. I do drink from time to time. I do. In fact I asked a friend of mine if he'd like to hang out on a one on one basis and maybe get a drink. His response was, "well, it will probably get boring". I asked him what he meant and he responded with " Its always more fun to drink in a group that way there are many conversations and no uncomfortable pauses". I guess I didn't realize we were fleeing pauses now.
So It looks like that if I want to fit in, I not only have to drink but also be in a group. So many rules.
Whenever I moved somewhere or got a new job I didn't make friends as quickly as most do. I remember being invited out so many times to go drink and mingle and I don't think I ever did the first year. I tried getting people to like the real me. The one they have to get to know at work when we're all sober. As I said, it wasn't always easy. I don't like the idea of going out and being cool just because I did a shot of something or drink a certain kind of beer. I love hearing people say "hey, this dude is bad ass, he drinks whiskey straight". Wow, that is pretty bad ass, right?
This isn't meant to be an attack on the entire human race, since everyone drinks. This was just a way for me to sort of vent and talk about whats on my mind. As I said, I drink from time to time to. We all do. I just don't know how I feel about it.
One last thing. Alcohol makes us all dumber....why do we like that?
