United 93 and The Hollywood For Press Foreign

The Golden Globe nominations we announced this week and it's always annoying when you read the nominees and realize you've seen none of the films listed. I haven't seen any of the best dramatic picture, actor or actress nominees and I've seen some of the nominees listed in the best comedy category. That means I have a busy month ahead of me. To view a list of the nominees click the below link.

Even though I haven't seen any of the movies listed above I'm still a little shocked that the a movie I consider to be the best movie I've seen all year was overlooked.

I left United 93 wanting to be a hero. Even knowing what was happening as the movie ended I still had a yearning to be on board helping the passengers accomplish their goal to regain control of the plane or crash it. Very few movies has ever given me that feeling and the few movies that have given me that feeling don't end in tragedy.

This film also did an incredible job of showing what was going on with the air traffic controllers as each plane on their screens flew off course than slowly disappeared above New York and Washington. It was eerie to see it from their point of view. The audience knows whats happening but they have no idea. You also get to see all the mis-information that was being provided to all the people working on the ground trying to figure out what was happening that day. Including the belief that the first plane to hit the trade center American Airlines Flight 11 was found and is somewhere flying above NY. That was after 2 planes had hit the towers. Then is was reported that Flight 11 had landed safely Which brought up the question, "if flight 11 didn't hit the trade center than what did?"
To anyone like me who has seen the documentary titled "Loose Change" and do believe that there are some pretty big conspiracy's that happened that day including the fact the United 93 may have actually been shot down, I believe that you will respect this movie and admire it for what it is. A well made story about what might have happened that day. Whether this is what happened aboard that flight or not, this movie will have you believing in heroes.

This is one of the few movies that has stayed with me since I saw it months ago and I was shocked to see it wasn't nominated for directing or movie. After reading an article written by Stephen King I would like to end this by quoting something he said about United 93 " If this emotionally wrenching docudrama isn't nominated for Best Picture, the Academy should be ashamed of itself".

don't feel bad that you haven't seen many of the movies nominated, like 80% of them just came out within the last couple of weeks. plus 80% of them didn't look all that fantastical anyway.

Yikes, the only film I've seen of all those listed is that Sunshine flick. Wanted to see Babel...and I love Helen Mirren, though haven't even seen her in anything more recent than Prime Suspect #3.

It's been a mostly Netflix year for me, too.

Here's one place United 93 is getting its due: http://www.avclub.com/content/node/56789

I've hardly seen any new movies this year either...but I would highly recommend Brick. The Onion AV take on Joseph Gordon-Levitt is spot on, he's my favorite young actor going (Mysterious Skin is amazing)...
