Rent vs Pride and Prejudice
How on earth can they be compared in the same category? This is how. Both movies use alot of one shots. One shots has a proper name but I honestly can't think of it. I guess I should describe what I mean to those who may not know. It's just what it sounds like. Its one long shot done during scenes in movies without any cuts. The movie Halloween's first 5 minutes is a one shot. The movie Cradle Will Rock starts with a 7-8 minute one shot. These shots usually impresses me the most because when their executed properly it reminds me of being at a play. Knowing the actors and filmakers need to have things properly times and memorized for their next move gives me goosebumps.
Ok moving on. Pride and Prejudice(the 2005 version) Has alot of amazing one shots. Their is one shot where the camera follows one person from a field to her house and from their the camera follows another character who takes us to another character and so on. Theirs another shot where we're at a ball and the shot must have lasted maybe 2-3 minutes which is really impresive because we go from room to room following Keira Knightly as she maneuvers around people dancing around her.
I hope so far this is making sense it's reallyt late and Im tired.
Im comparing this to Rent because I have just recently seen both of them and Rent also has alot of one shots. Alot of poorly shot boring one shots. You see even though Im a huge fan of the one shot. I don't think all movies should have them or use them. Rent being a rock musical should be shot like a rock video. Theirs a shot in Rent where the main characters Mark and Roger are basically yelling a song at each other. The camera during this scene just spins around them about three times and than follows them outsite where they throw a garbage can over their balcony. The shot doesnt work for me because I felt it needed something sharp or edgy. There are a few other shots like this in the movie that are just unecesary and could have been executed better.
The shots in Rent stood out as if the director was trying to be artsy. The shots is Pride stood out as artsy and honestly briliant. Im not going to say I recomend one more than the other because their completly different categories. Directors just need to research their material better and learn how to be artists for the different topics they are taking on.
There
Pride and Prejudice sucked. I don't know the name of the shot, but Alfred Hitchcock made it famous in his movie "The Rope." Or perhaps just "Rope." I think the film was only changed twice. He changed the film by zooming in on the back of a man's black jacket, and then zooming away from it and continue the shot through out the room.
I think you are refering to the type of Hitchcock shot used when you push the character toward a character while zooming back at the same time. Most people remember it in Jaws when the shark eats the boy on the raft and the camera zooms in on Chief Brody. If thats not what your refering to than disregaurd what I said. I did like Pride and Prejudice though.
ummmmm...... i got your one shot right here mr. powers.
Excellent, love it!
