Almost Goodbye 2005

What did we learn in 2005? Lots. It's funny, when we all thought theirs no way the Bush Administrtions second term could be better than his first and we were all proven wrong. We learned that we're more than prepared for any disasters that awaits us around the corner. Thanks to Bill O'Reilly we learned that if those people in Loisiana were educated they wouldnt have stayed. We learned that only black people loot and white people fight to stay alive. We also learned that husbands know their wives less than the wives parents. An add on to that we learned that Dr's who have never examined you know your prognosis better than Dr's who see you on a daily basis.

On a lighter note Batman restarted this year with a big bang. It was one of the best movies of the year. Star Wars ended with Lucas's final chapter Revenge of the Sith which in a way is good news for people hoping that maybe one day Lucas's ideas will be given great care with a new Captain at the helm. Wouldnt a Spike Jonze or a David Fincher Star Wars be cool. Harry Potter also pleasantly surprised me this year since I was the only person that didn't like "The Prisoner Of Azkaban"I wasnt expecting much out of this one. I ended up loving it and happy that I was back into the series. Other good movies that were spawned from some kind of franchise were "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Sin City"

This year brought other great movies that weren't spawned from a franchise like "Weddding Crashers", "The 40 Year Old Virgin", "Good Night and Good Luck", "King Kong", "The Corpse Bride", and we'll just leave off with "Crash". Disapointment awards went to "War of the Worlds", "Bewitched", "Robots", "Mr and Mrs Smith", and "The Island". I wasnt expecting much from "The Island" but when I did see it it started off really good, it sucked me in , and than it became shitty. It's too bad, Michael Bay impressed me for about an hour.

An Obvious plus and minus this year was Arrested Development. A plus because it's a great show with no ratings that lucky has been able to last for 2 and a half seasons. A minus because it may only last 2 and a half seasons. When they keep cutting the episode order back it actually stresses me out. Something a TV show has never done to me before. TV this year also introduced us to the American version of "The Office" which started off slow but than they found their ground and ,like Arrested Develoment, started off with no ratings but luckily this show is gaining viewership each week. Jason Lee's "My Name is Earl started this year with critical praise and week rating but like "The Office" it's climbing slowly to the top as well. I don't really watch that many television shows so to end this portion I will just say we got Family Guy Back. Hopefully the same can be done for Arrested Development.

I'll tell you the one show that started this year that people are watching and shouldnt be. Fox's "The War at Home" which is on after the Simpsons and before Family Guy is a racist tasteless sexist ignorant show that is only on the air because its on a golden time slot. The show is done Naration style with each actor talking to the screen in between scenes. I sat through only half an episode and I got a sexist joke and a gay joke. There was a line that I prposly forgot but I remember it was similar to " I'll be damned if my faggy son becomes a fruit". Quality stuff there.
"The War at Home" has Arrested Developments old time slot which last year was after "The Simpsons" and before...something forgetable. I think it was reruns of "The Simpsons". With the Family Guy back "The Simpsons" this year is back in the top 20 watched shows each week and Family guy is in the top 30 which I beleive The War at home sits as well. It's too bad Fox decided to take their big Emmy winner off of the sunday slate and replace it with something repulsive. Since Fox did pick up the Arrested pilot 3 years ago should I now be thanking them or hating them?

Im not really knowledgable with music anymore. Im a 75 year old 26 year old man. Everytime I turn the radio on I either turn it back off and pop in a cd or I turn to Air America. Sitting here thinking about music this year Im really stumped. I'l just send shouts out to Madonna, Danny Elfman for Corpse Bride and Charlie and the choco- too long, the Spamalot musical, and well, I guess thats it.

I guess I will sum this up by mentioning my favorite entertainers this year. All of the people I will mention have been around for a while. its just that this year they impressed me. Theres no order except for the first one. This would be my entertainer of the year. Steve Carell for his success in writing and starring the The 40 Year Old Virgin and starring in The Office. I would also like to point out Cillian Murphy and Rachel McAdams. Cillian Murphy did a great job as the scarecrow in Batman Begins. He didnt play it over the top in anyway. He played it cool =0). Rachel McAdams gets props mainly because I realized this year that she one of the few beautiful actresses in Hollywood thats actually good. When losses like Lindsey Lohan and Hilary Duff are getting starring roles MacAdams is hiding out in the back of blockbusters. The last person I'll mention is Ian Mcdiarmid who played Palpatine in the Star Wars saga. Whether you like the movies or not you have to admit that he did a great job this year in Revenge of the Sith being a careing fatherlike figure to Anakin and than going insane once he took control of everything. I thought it was like playing two different characters but at the same time making us believe they were one. Does that make sense? Their were other greats this year but right now I need to wrap things up. Im leaving for Boston in the morning so I need to finish packing

Ok I covered some politics, music movies and oh books. I read Al Frankens "Truth with Jokes". Its not nearly as funny as his previous "Lies" book but I still highly recomend it. Ok so 2005 I will miss you. Take care and I hope someday we cross paths again.

Some good quotes from this year

"Is that the Six Million Dollar Mans boss?" - The 40 Year Old Virgin

"He's here"
"Who"
"The Batman" - What movie is this from

"See that on the back, Bullseye baby" - Wedding Crashers

" Are you threatening me Master Jedi" - Not saying this one either

"Aww yeah your doing me Nice" - The 40 Year Old Virgin

"I think Browny is doing a great job" - GW

maybe I'll add more later
